Record the exact pair before checking your library
Copy the release name and the full names of its required games into your own notes. “Modern Warfare 2” is a useful example of why this matters: the official Melty showcase points to the 2009 Steam entry, not the later 2022 title. Similarly, the Skyrim card points to Special Edition, and the Halo card points to The Master Chief Collection.
Our directory records those official card labels so you can avoid the first naming mistake. It does not certify an installation. A specific mashup may have requirements that are more detailed than its promotional card, and those requirements can change when either a game or the mashup is updated.
For Minecraft, do not guess Java or Bedrock support from a picture. For a collection, do not assume every included title is used. An unanswered edition question should stay unanswered until the release author or current instructions resolve it. Buying a different edition to experiment would be a separate decision, not a step this guide asks you to take.
Ownership, accounts and files are separate checks
Owning a game in a store account and having its expected version installed are two different conditions. Melty’s terms say the app finds installed games and reads versions. They also say it may look for a copy in your folders and drives when a mashup needs files from that copy. A library entry alone does not tell you whether the required files are present.
The terms name Steam and Minecraft accounts as examples of services you may need. Keep those accounts under your own control. A creator does not need your password or a screenshot of a token to tell you which edition a release supports. Redact personal paths and account information when asking for help.
A free mashup does not provide the underlying games for free. The platform says it does not sell, lend or license those games. If a required title is missing, confirm the exact edition before making any purchase elsewhere. This guide does not sell keys or host game files.
Plan the restore path first
Before trying a release, know which game installation it will touch, where your saves are kept, and how you would restore your existing setup. Back up saves you care about using the game or platform’s documented method. If you already run other mods, record that state before introducing another change.
Melty describes keeping a copy of files it replaces and restoring them when the mashup is removed. That is useful information about its intended behaviour, but it does not replace a save backup. A save file, a game installation and a mod manager’s own state may be different things.
Close the game before changing its setup and avoid combining unrelated fix instructions from different releases. If you need to troubleshoot, change one documented condition at a time and record the result. Otherwise you can lose track of what caused a failure or what you need to undo.
Check the mode you intend to use
A single-player demonstration does not prove that co-op or a competitive online mode is supported. Some publishers or online services restrict mods. Melty’s terms explicitly acknowledge this boundary. Read the relevant game rules rather than assuming that a launcher’s Play button changes them.
For a multiplayer-enabled release, confirm what each person needs to own and install. Melty describes joining through an invite link, with public sessions also possible. The terms say hosting can expose the host’s game network address to joining players. Decide who you are inviting before opening a public session.
The current download is offered for Windows. This guide does not certify console, macOS, Linux or Steam Deck compatibility. A creator showing one successful configuration is evidence for that demonstration, not all platforms or hardware.
Turn the unknowns into a useful question
If something is unclear, ask a narrow question: “Does this release require Skyrim Special Edition, and which current build did you test?” is easier to answer than “Will it work on my PC?” Include the release version, game edition and the step you are trying to complete, while leaving credentials and personal information out.
The preparation checklist on this page stays in your browser. It is a reminder, not an automated inspection or a safety score. Checking every box means you have reviewed those questions; it does not mean this website has verified your games. Once you have the answers, return to the chosen release in the official app.
Reader questions
These questions combine concerns raised in the linked community discussion with editorial follow-ups to official documentation and promotional claims. They are paraphrased, not quotations. Answers use current documentation.
Do I need to own both games?
Melty’s current terms require a legitimate copy of every game a mashup uses, along with any required service accounts. A showcase picture or free launcher does not grant those licences.
Question context: Melty official websiteCan I assume the edition from a game’s name?
No. Use the exact release requirements. The official cards identify some editions, but do not resolve every platform or build detail.
